Project Description

Alvin Lau – 2013 Winner

When did you start?

I’ve been writing since a little kid, but I didn’t get serious until the end of high school. I decide to go “pro” sometime in 2007.

What do you hope to achieve through the Kollaboration experience?

A lot of spoken word scenes have a wild shortage of Asian-Americans, so I’m definitely looking forward to meeting and working with a lot of API!

On a day off, you can find me…

Grinding at my computer. I’m a professional online poker player, so that’s what I’m doing 95% of the time when I’m not at a show / being social.

People would be surprised to learn that…

You can make a living writing poetry.

My biggest inspirations are…

Nelson Mandela’s civics, the Dalai Lama’s compassion, and Kanye West’s swag.

If I could perform with anybody in the world, it would be…

I’d kill to somehow be in a Cirque Du Soleil show.

Chicago, IL for the past 22 years, and I was born in Marion, IL. Midwest for life!

Chinese by blood, but definitely not nationality. My dad’s from Hong Kong and my mom’s from Taiwanese.

I’ll be performing spoken word –really it’s performance poetry or slam poetry, but believe I’ve got a few big surprises up my sleeve for the show.
