Q & A with Andrea Kim
When did you start?
The beginnings of my musical experiences trace back to 3rd grade, when I learned to play flute. However, I officially started singing when I was in 5th grade in the school choir; admittedly, it was more of a socially-driven choice, but soon I became very invested in and passionate about becoming a good singer. This led to singing for praise band at church, open mics, and an a capella group in college while working on several covers and originals on my own – and here I am now.
What do you hope to achieve through the Kollaboration experience?
I hope to grow as a musician and challenge myself to push past my comfort zone. Ultimately, I hope to feel fully immersed during the performance while connecting with the audience on a deeper level.
On a day off, you can find me…
Checking out new places, trying out new hobbies, going out to local venues and restaurants with friends, grading papers, binge-watching Youtube videos, and occasionally dancing the night away or doing something CRAZY (not illegal though!).
People would be surprised to learn that…
I’m left handed, ENFP, AND Blood Type O. The way that I typically act around people doesn’t seem to reflect any of the stigmas that come with the latter traits. I’m usually very chill, moderately reserved, and polite. But once you get to know me, I can be pretty quirky, unconventional, and wild.
My biggest inspirations are…
My parents. It sounds super cliche, but they have sacrificed so much for me to the point where I had a hard time understanding them. Plus, the moral and spiritual guidance they have provided has proven to be invaluable and irreplaceable in my life. In terms of music, I would have to say that Jason Mraz, James Morrison, FTISLAND, and Sia Furler are my biggest inspirations.
If I could perform with anybody in the world, it would be…
Lee Hong-Ki from FTISLAND. I am not a crazy K-pop fanatic, but I’ve admired his music since he first came out. Also, it would be a dream come true to perform with SIA.
