Q & A with Flashburn
When did you start?
I started beatboxing on April 4th, 2011 so it’s been a little over 4 years since I started.
What do you hope to achieve through the Kollaboration experience?
I hope to continue pushing my image as well as the Asian American image in entertainment to inspire people to follow their dreams.
On a day off, you can find me…
Playing and/or streaming video games, hanging out with friends, working on new beats, or programming/designing some project I’m working on relating to my game design major.
People would be surprised to learn that…
I’ve lived in 5 states over the past 10 years. Born and raised in Orlando, FL, then to Cleveland, OH, then to Davis, CA, then to Goshen, IL (aka middle of nowhere Amishland), back to Cleveland, then to Chicago, IL for school and to continue to do what I do in a bigger place.
My biggest inspirations are…
For beatboxers, krNfx, Reeps One, Ball-Zee, Alem, and countless others from all around the world. Other than beatboxers, Zomboy, Slipknot, FLOW!, DJ S3RL, YUI, AZIATIX, GRANRODEO, and so many more.
If I could perform with anybody in the world, it would be…
Any of the people mentioned in the last question, but I’m up for collaborating with anyone who makes good music.
I live in Chicago now, but I represent all of my hometowns.
Cantonese Chinese. My dad was born in Penang, Malaysia and my mom was born here, but I’m about as Cantonese as one can be. My family comes from Guangzhou.
I make interesting sounds with my mouth and arrange them into music.
