Q & A with Paul Yang
When did you start?
It all started when I entered the youth ministry at my church. Inspired by the worship leader, I picked up the guitar in 2006 and couldn’t put it down. In 2008, I dabbled in a little bboying because that was every Korean boy’s phase, but if it weren’t for the musical pretext, it would have been nothing more than a fad hobby. In 2010, I was immediately hooked on beatboxing because of the wide variety in style and patterns. As I continue to pursue and expand my passions, I hope to pick up more talents like getting a girlfriend LOLJK.
What do you hope to achieve through the Kollaboration experience?
Lord willing, if I succeed, I would pursue my passions and talents as an occupation, perhaps making albums and performing at live venues. But overall, I’m just here to have fun and to inspire others.
On a day off, you can find me…
Building bikes and taking them on long rides or hand making a well deserved cup of coffee or simply jamming out with friends.
People would be surprised to learn that…
I don’t listen to a lot of music because I’m too busy creating in my head. When I hit a dry spell, it’s only then I listen to some jams.
My biggest inspirations are…
For beatboxing, Singaporean beatboxer Dharni. For guitar, church is my biggest inspiration. For breakdancing, my crew.
If I could perform with anybody in the world, it would be…
Copeland: my favorite band since high school. Or Jesus Christ. I hear he’s pretty good on the drums.
