Project Description

Q & A with Wonnie Park

When did you start?

I got my first guitar when I was in 7th grade as an early birthday present, but I really didn’t know how to play it until I started the 9th grade.

What do you hope to achieve through the Kollaboration experience?

I hope to meet some new people and make meaningful connections and friendships with fellow Kollaborators and finalists. I’m excited to get to meet all of them soon!

On a day off, you can find me…

A variety of places, either in the studio writing more music, at Nara drinking and singing with my friends, practicing Super Smash Brothers Melee, or exploring Chicago for new places to eat.

People would be surprised to learn that…

I like to keep a bottle of spicy food additive (apparently you can’t legally call it a hot sauce because it’s much spicier) on my desk and I have a couple Carolina Reapers in my freezer… for reasons I don’t know anymore… just for kicks when I want to spice up my life.

My biggest inspirations are…

I’ll give a top 5:
1. Takayoshi Ohmura
2. Mikio Fujioka
3. Mario Camarena
4. Guthrie Govan
5. Greg Howe

If I could perform with anybody in the world, it would be…

Outside of the people above, I love to get a chance to perform with my older brother and little brother at the same time. My little brother used to be my drummer for the bands I was in during high school, and despite having grown up all as a musical family, we never had a chance to perform all together.

Get to know Austin…

I was born in Schaumburg, but I want to bring that Sasebo hype because it’s like a second home to me and some of my closest friends still live in Sasebo.

I am Korean American!

I play lead electric guitar! (and I can eat a whole Super King Burrito from Taco Burrito King in one sitting)
